Gov. Mutfwang Declares Hisbah Operations Illegal in Plateau, Orders Security Agencies to Intervene

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has banned the activities of the Hisbah group in Jos North, saying the body has no legal backing to operate in the state.

The governor issued the directive following reports that members of the group were carrying out patrols. He stated that such actions are not recognized under Plateau State laws.

According to Mutfwang, maintaining law and order is the responsibility of constitutionally established security agencies. He warned that allowing parallel enforcement groups to operate could create confusion and undermine public safety.

The governor has directed the police and other security agencies to stop the group from further operations within the state capital and its environs. He emphasized that any group seeking to provide moral or religious guidance must do so within the framework of the law.

Government officials said the administration remains committed to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence, but will not tolerate any organization acting outside statutory authority. Residents have been urged to report any further activities by the group to security agencies.
