Sahara Power Kicks Off $12 Million, 12MW Gas-Fired Plant in Ogba, Lagos

Sahara Power Enterprise Group has broken ground on a new 12-megawatt gas-powered independent power plant in Lagos. The facility will be sited within the Ogba network area managed by Ikeja Electric Plc.

The company announced on Thursday that the project carries an investment value of $12 million. It is designed to boost electricity supply to homes and businesses within the Ikeja Electric franchise.

According to Sahara Power, construction is now underway and the plant is targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027. The timeline was disclosed in an official statement released by the group.

The IPP is expected to improve power reliability in Ogba and adjoining communities by adding more dedicated generation capacity to the distribution network. Gas will serve as the primary fuel source for the facility.

Executives at Sahara Power said the investment aligns with efforts to close Nigeria’s energy gap through decentralized generation. They added that the project will also create jobs during construction and support economic activity in the area once operational.
