Trump Revives 51st State Claim, Says Canada Will Eventually Join The US

United States President Donald Trump has again suggested that Canada will eventually become the 51st state of America, citing long-standing trade disagreements between both neighbours.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on Wednesday, Trump accused Canada of treating the United States unfairly on trade. He referenced dairy tariffs, the relocation of car companies to the US, and what he described as years of economic exploitation.

According to him, the current trade arrangement favours Canada and costs America billions of dollars annually. He stated that Canada needs the US more than the US needs Canada, and that statehood was the only logical way for the relationship to work.

Trump also linked his comments on Canada to his long-held interest in Greenland, describing both territories as additions to what he called America’s growing plate. He further joked about renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America.

The remarks come amid rising trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa, with Canada imposing retaliatory tariffs on American goods. Canadian leaders, including British Columbia Premier David Eby, have repeatedly rejected the idea, insisting that Canada will never become part of the United States.
