Tragic River Crash in Kogi State Claims Four Young Lives and Injures Several Others

A tragic accident unfolded in Kogi State when a truck transporting pupils from Egbolo plunged into a river while heading to school, resulting in the deaths of four students and injuring several others. Emergency responders were quickly notified, and the site was secured to facilitate rescue efforts.

Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police, and civil defence units worked together to retrieve victims from the water and provide immediate assistance.

The injured were taken to Kogi Specialist Hospital and the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, where they received urgent medical care. Medical staff at both facilities attended to the victims, offering treatment for the injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to excessive speed, which led to the collision with the river. FRSC Sector Commander for Kogi State, Samuel Oyedeji, confirmed the casualties and called on motorists to observe road‑safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities have extended their condolences to the families of the deceased and stressed the importance of stricter traffic enforcement. They urged drivers to remain vigilant and encouraged community cooperation to enhance road safety throughout the state.
