The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested three suspected vote‑buyers during Anambra’s governorship election on 8 November 2025.
Emeka Ilokasia was detained at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government; Nwachuwu Loretta at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government; and Emuka Chuwudi at Umunachi village, Dukonukofia Local Government. All were intercepted while polling stations were open, indicating the alleged activity occurred during the vote.
The EFCC has opened a full investigation to trace the source of the funds and determine whether the suspects acted alone or as part of a larger network. Once the inquiry is complete, the agency plans to charge the individuals with electoral fraud and related offences, which could result in substantial fines and imprisonment under Nigerian law.
The operation underscores the EFCC’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the electoral process in Anambra and serves as a warning to anyone attempting to undermine the democratic exercise. Authorities have urged the public to report any further suspicious activity to aid the ongoing investigation.
