Senator Barau Funds Scholarships for Ghanaian Students to Study Hausa

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has announced scholarships for Ghanaian students pursuing studies in the Hausa language. The initiative aims to support academic growth and deepen cultural ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Barau said young Africans must tag their heritage. He described language as a key pillar of identity, noting that Hausa has historically served as a bridge for trade, communication, and unity across West Africa.

According to him, investing in Hausa studies will help keep the language alive for future generations. He urged students to see the opportunity as both an academic pursuit and a responsibility to promote understanding among diverse communities.

The senator emphasized that culture is not just about tradition, but also a tool for unity. By learning and teaching indigenous languages, he said, young people can foster stronger bonds across borders and reduce divisions within the region.

Barau concluded by calling on other leaders and institutions to support similar programs. He noted that protecting African languages is essential for safeguarding identity, while also creating avenues for cooperation and shared progress among nations.
