The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has sacked more than 40 of its personnel over corruption-related offenses. The anti-graft agency said the disciplinary action followed internal investigations and recommendations from its disciplinary committee.
According to the Commission, the dismissed staff were found to have violated the EFCC’s code of conduct and public service rules. The actions ranged from abuse of office to acts that compromised ongoing investigations and the integrity of the agency.
In addition to the sackings, the EFCC disclosed that 5 other officers are currently facing prosecution. The Commission stated that it had forwarded their cases to court to face charges in line with due process.
The EFCC emphasized that the move is part of efforts to clean up its ranks and restore public trust. Officials said no staff member will be shielded regardless of rank or years of service, and that internal accountability is key to the agency’s credibility in fighting financial crimes.
The Commission reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and warned that it will continue to monitor and sanction any officer found wanting. It added that strengthening internal discipline is necessary to ensure the EFCC leads by example in the fight against corruption.
