NAFDAC Logs 225 Reports of Suspected Fake Products in August, Says Adeyeye

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control says it recorded 225 complaints of suspected counterfeit items last month.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed the figure on Monday during a media briefing in Abuja. She said the reports covered suspected fake, adulterated and unsafe regulated products circulating in different parts of the country.

According to her, the complaints were received through the agency’s consumer reporting channels and are currently being investigated. Adeyeye noted that the spike highlights the need for increased public vigilance and stronger enforcement.

The DG reaffirmed NAFDAC’s commitment to ridding the market of harmful products. She said the agency has intensified surveillance, raids, and laboratory testing to identify and remove dangerous goods before they reach consumers.

Adeyeye urged Nigerians to always verify product authenticity and report suspicious items to NAFDAC offices nationwide. She added that protecting public health remains the agency’s top priority as it works with other security agencies to prosecute offenders.
