Federal Government Hands Over Management of King’s College Lagos to Old Boys’ Association

The Federal Government has approved the concession of King’s College, Lagos to its alumni body, the King’s College Old Boys Association.

The decision marks a major shift in how one of Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious secondary schools will be managed. Under the new arrangement, the KCOBA will take responsibility for key administrative and developmental functions of the institution.

Government officials said the move is aimed at improving infrastructure, academic standards, and overall welfare at the college. They noted that leveraging the resources, expertise, and global network of old boys would help reposition the school for 21st-century challenges.

The King’s College Old Boys Association has long been involved in supporting the school through donations, mentorship programs, and renovation projects. With the concession, the association is expected to play a more direct role in policy implementation and long-term planning.

Stakeholders described the development as a progressive step toward public-private collaboration in education. The Federal Ministry of Education stated it will retain oversight to ensure the school continues to meet national education standards while benefiting from alumni-driven management.
