The Federal Government has approved a significant upward review of salaries for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The pay adjustment covers all ranks, with junior soldiers receiving the highest percentage increase.
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the decision. He described the move as a clear recognition of the sacrifices made by troops who serve on the frontlines of the country’s security operations.
Under the new structure, privates will see their pay rise by 80 percent. Senior officers will also benefit, with colonels getting a 50 percent increase while generals will receive a 30 percent raise. The tiered approach places more weight on the welfare of lower-ranking personnel.
Matawalle said the salary boost is aimed at improving morale, motivation, and welfare across the military. He noted that better remuneration will help troops remain focused and effective in tackling terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges nationwide.
The minister added that the administration remains committed to prioritizing the wellbeing of security personnel. He expressed optimism that the pay reform will strengthen troop efficiency and reinforce public confidence in the armed forces.
