Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Minister of Works to reconsider the current approach to road infrastructure in the country.
Speaking on the state of federal roads, the former Edo governor said many existing highways across Nigeria are in poor condition and urgently need rehabilitation. He argued that attention should first be given to fixing these roads before embarking on fresh constructions.
Oshiomhole noted that the push for new road projects does not align with the reality on ground. According to him, motorists and communities continue to suffer due to the deplorable state of old roads that have been neglected for years. He referenced a recent development, saying about 20 new road projects were reportedly approved three weeks ago.
While acknowledging the need for expansion, he stressed that resources would have more impact if channeled toward repairing deteriorated infrastructure first. The senator’s remarks add to ongoing public debate about government spending priorities. He urged the Ministry of Works to adopt a strategy that balances new projects with the maintenance and completion of existing ones to ease transportation challenges nationwide.
