Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Eligible to Run in Nigeria’s 2027 Election

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki has welcomed a Federal High Court decision that dismissed a lawsuit questioning former President Goodluck Jonathan’s eligibility to run in the 2027 presidential election.

The group described the verdict as a positive development for the party’s preparations ahead of the next polls. In his ruling on Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court held that the plaintiff, JohnMary Jideobi, lacked the legal standing to bring the case.

The court determined that Jideobi had not demonstrated any direct injury or loss arising from Jonathan’s alleged intention to contest the election.According to the PDP faction, the judgement removes a legal obstacle that had generated uncertainty around Jonathan’s potential candidacy.

The group said the ruling affirms that party members and citizens retain the right to pursue their political ambitions within the framework of the law.The Turaki-led PDP called on party stakeholders to focus on unity and strategy as the 2027 election cycle approaches.

It added that clearing legal distractions early would allow the party to concentrate on presenting credible candidates and policies to Nigerians.
