The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Salifu Olije Mustapha before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, over allegations of impersonation and misrepresentation.
Mustapha faces a four-count charge for allegedly posing as an officer of the EFCC and other security agencies to deceive members of the public.
According to one of the charges, Mustapha, in March 2026, allegedly aided two accomplices—one still at large and another under investigation by a separate agency—by transporting them in EFCC operational uniforms to Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja. The prosecution stated that the group used a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT to carry out the scheme.
Another charge accused him of falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer to defraud unsuspecting individuals.During the court proceedings, Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts.
Following his plea, prosecuting counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. Justice A.I. Akobi subsequently adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, for sentencing. The EFCC said Mustapha was arrested after actionable intelligence linked him to impersonating commission officials.
Operatives apprehended him wearing a fake EFCC uniform alongside two other suspects, who were reportedly harassing motorists and extorting money from them in the area.
