Ugandan Authorities Detain 231 Foreign Nationals in Anti-Crime Operation

Ugandan security agencies have arrested 231 foreign nationals, including 62 Nigerians, during a nationwide operation targeting illegal migration and cybercrime.

The coordinated crackdown was carried out across several regions following intelligence reports on undocumented residency and suspected online fraud activities.

According to officials, the operation aims to strengthen immigration compliance and curb transnational cyber offenses that threaten financial systems and public safety.

Those detained are undergoing screening to verify their immigration status and establish potential links to criminal networks.

Authorities stated that individuals found in violation of immigration laws or implicated in cybercrime will face prosecution.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to lawful migration and regional security cooperation. It urged foreign nationals in Uganda to regularize their documentation and warned that further enforcement actions will continue to address illegal entry and technology-enabled crime.
