Nearly 400,000 households across Ondo State have received support through three tranches of the Household Prosperity and Cash Transfer Programme, implemented under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa made this disclosure on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Bernard Doro, at the Government House in Akure.
The programme forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to provide direct financial assistance to vulnerable households nationwide.
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended President Bola Tinubu for the initiative, describing it as a significant humanitarian intervention aimed at alleviating poverty.
He noted that beneficiaries were drawn from all 18 local government areas of the state and highlighted the importance of ongoing engagement with recipients to gather feedback on the programme’s implementation.
The Governor also raised concerns regarding challenges with National Identification Number (NIN) registration that have affected some payments, while praising the Minister’s direct interaction with stakeholders to promote greater accountability and transparency.
Minister Doro stated that the visit formed part of a nationwide review of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He revealed that Ondo State had received approximately ₦9.9 billion across the three payment cycles.
The Minister emphasised the need for improved public communication and awareness to enhance the programme’s effectiveness, adding that the Federal Government is refining its social protection framework to ensure more targeted and impactful support at the grassroots level.
