FIFA Faces Fan Fury Over ‘Extortionate’ 2026 World Cup Ticket Prices: A Monumental Betrayal

Supporters’ organizations have strongly criticized FIFA over the steeply elevated ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, labeling them as excessive and a significant departure from previous tournaments.

The entry-level seat for the final is set at approximately £3,119 (around $4,185), with higher categories climbing to £4,162 and £6,615—figures that represent up to seven times the cost of comparable tickets at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where the most affordable final admission was about £450.

FIFA has implemented a new variable pricing approach for group-stage games, adjusting costs according to the anticipated appeal of each matchup.

This has resulted in notable disparities, such as England fixtures (for instance, against Croatia) ranging from £198 to £523, while Scotland’s games (like against Haiti) fall between £134 and £372.

Fan groups argue that this model introduces inconsistency and disadvantages dedicated followers who prioritize attendance regardless of opponents.

Overall expenses for loyal fans aiming to attend all potential matches for their team—from the group stage through to the final—could exceed £12,000 in premium categories, a sharp rise from around £3,914 in Qatar.

Organizations like Football Supporters Europe are calling for an immediate pause in ticket sales and a thorough review of the pricing structure to better honor the event’s inclusive spirit.
