Lawyer Steve Adamu Arraigned by EFCC for Providing False Information in Kaduna

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Kaduna zonal office has brought a lawyer, Steve Adamu, before the Kaduna State High Court on a single charge of disseminating false information.

Appearing before Justice Darius Khobo, Adamu entered a not‑guilty plea after the charge sheet alleged that on 15 September 2022 he knowingly supplied the EFCC with fabricated details that were subsequently used to initiate an investigation into his complaint. The prosecution, represented by counsel M.E. Eimonye, requested a trial date, while the defence sought bail for the accused.

Justice Khobo ordered that Adamu be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre and set 20 December 2025 as the date for hearing the bail application. The case stems from a petition Adamu filed with the EFCC’s Kaduna office, in which he claimed his landlord possessed no legitimate income yet repeatedly purchased expensive vehicles and acquired numerous properties.

Investigations by the Commission found these allegations to be baseless and malicious, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution under Section 16(1) and (2) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.The matter now proceeds to a full trial, with the court awaiting the bail decision before further proceedings.

The EFCC’s action underscores its commitment to curb the spread of false information that could undermine its investigative functions, while Adamu maintains his innocence and awaits the judicial process.Give a befitting title
