Security breach at Kano State Government House leads to theft of deputy governor’s vehicle

Early Monday morning, an unidentified individual slipped through Gate 4 of the Kano State Government House at around 5 a.m. and drove away a Toyota Hilux belonging to the deputy governor’s convoy. Surveillance footage later confirmed the route taken, showing the thief exiting through the main gate without triggering alarms.

The breach exposed a gap in the security schedule, as the complex is only patrolled during regular office hours or when the deputy governor is present. The vehicle’s driver, Shafiu Sharp‑Sharp, was taken into custody for questioning.

Authorities have launched a full investigation, with the Chief Security Officer reviewing CCTV recordings and law‑enforcement agencies provided with a detailed description of the stolen Hilux to aid recovery and identify the culprit. Efforts to obtain a comment from Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesman, Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, were unsuccessful.

The incident has raised concerns about the adequacy of security measures at the Government House and prompted calls for enhanced patrols and stricter access controls to prevent similar thefts in the future. The case remains open, and investigators continue to pursue leads to recover the vehicle and apprehend those responsible.
