Akon Detained in Georgia Over Suspended License and Outstanding Bench Warrant

Akon, the “Locked Up” singer, was taken into custody in DeKalb County, Georgia, on the morning of November 7 after officers from the Chamblee Police Department executed a warrant issued by authorities in Roswell, Fulton County.

The warrant stemmed from a traffic stop two months earlier, when his Tesla Cybertruck ran out of power on a Roswell road and police discovered that his driver’s license had been revoked for missing a court appearance in January 2023.

During that stop, officers cited him for driving with a suspended license and seized an illegal vape device from the vehicle before releasing him at the scene. He was booked at the DeKalb County jail and released about six hours later. A spokesperson for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the arrest was carried out in accordance with the outstanding warrant and that no additional charges were filed.

A mugshot showing the 52‑year‑old wearing a black hoodie and looking serious quickly circulated on social media. The case remains open pending a court hearing, where Akon will need to address the suspended‑license violation and the bench warrant.

The incident is the latest in a series of legal run‑ins for the Grammy‑nominated artist, who previously faced a dropped car‑theft charge in 1998 and a harassment case that resulted in community service in 2008.

Despite the setback, Akon continues to stay active, with upcoming performances scheduled in India and a Las Vegas show planned for early 2026.

Fans have reacted with a mix of surprise and support, noting that even high‑profile musicians are not immune to traffic violations and the consequences that follow.
