Aloba Family Demands Fresh Investigation into Mohbad’s Death and Imposes Surname Restriction

The Aloba family has once again called for a new, independent inquiry into the death of their son, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the family’s head, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, they expressed disappointment with the existing investigation and demanded a fully transparent review to determine exactly what happened. They emphasized that uncovering the truth and holding any responsible parties accountable is paramount.

In the same announcement, the family instructed Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to stop using the Aloba surname until a court‑ordered DNA test is completed.

The directive, covering both public and private use of the name, is intended to protect the family’s lineage while the paternity of Wunmi’s son, Liam, is legally resolved.

The Aloba family also noted that no formal marriage civil or customary had been established between Mohbad and Wunmi, as the traditional Yoruba rites, including the payment of bride‑price, were never fulfilled.

To manage the legal matters, the family has appointed counsel to oversee the DNA testing and the administration of Mohbad’s estate.

Dr Wahab Shittu, SAN, of Wahab Shittu, SAN & Co., will continue to represent the family in dealings with investigators, while Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, has been named the sole legal representative for the DNA case and estate affairs.

Three administrators Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba have been tasked with managing the deceased’s assets, royalties, and intellectual property.

The family reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice for Mohbad through peaceful, lawful means and asked the public to respect the judicial process while a new burial date and memorial plans are finalized.
