The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) handed over a bank draft worth N42.5 million to Mrs. Margaret Taye Odofin, a 70‑year‑old widow and retiree from Kaduna. The draft was presented at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate on Thursday, 7 November 2025 by Acting Director Bawa Kaltungo, on behalf of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
The funds had been recovered from Mrs. Kehinde Olawale Yusuf, a former account and investment officer at a new‑generation bank, who had allegedly siphoned N47 million from Odofin’s account between November and December 2020 by luring her into a Ponzi scheme that promised quarterly returns of N1.7 million.
According to the complaint filed by Odofin in December 2024, Yusuf persuaded her to invest in the scheme and then transferred the money to several accounts without her consent.
After Odofin confronted her, Yusuf ceased communication and fled to the United Kingdom, but the EFCC traced the illicit proceeds and secured their recovery. In a statement, Odofin expressed profound gratitude, noting that she had first reported the fraud in the UK, was directed to the EFCC, and is now relieved to have her life savings restored.
Kaltungo reiterated the commission’s dedication to pursuing justice for victims of financial fraud, thanking Odofin for her trust and praising the leadership of Chairman Olukoyede. He affirmed that the EFCC remains committed to professionalism and to resolving fraudulent cases within its mandate, and he welcomed continued public confidence in the agency’s efforts.
