The Lagos State Government has resumed clearing illegal shops attached to the pedestrian bridge in Idumota. This effort aims to maintain order, improve pedestrian movement, and eliminate safety risks in the area.
The operation is a joint effort between the Office of the Drainage Services and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC). They’re targeting structures encroaching on the bridge and its surroundings.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab shared a video clip showing operatives demolishing cemented shop structures built against the pedestrian bridge. This move follows the expiration of notices served to occupants, reinforcing the government’s commitment to environmental safety and law enforcement.
In a similar operation last month, LAGESC removed over 650 illegal shanties under the Idumota Bridge, citing environmental and safety concerns.
