NAFDAC Seizes 10 truckloads of Fake Drugs in Onitsha

NAFDAC has made a significant bust, seizing 10 truckloads of counterfeit, expired, and falsified drugs at the Ogbo-Ogwu Bridge Head Market in Onitsha, Anambra State. The agency’s officials discovered large quantities of adulterated medicines hidden in various shops during an ongoing enforcement operation.

What’s even more striking is that NAFDAC officials rejected a whopping N135 million bribe from market operators who tried to obstruct the operation. This refusal to give in to corruption is a testament to the agency’s commitment to protecting public health.

The seized drugs include expired, banned, substandard, defective, repackaged, and recalled products. Some of the drugs were even found to be imitations of popular brands, packaged in containers of the original manufacturer to deceive unsuspecting consumers.

This raid is a significant step in NAFDAC’s efforts to eradicate fake and harmful drugs from the market. The agency’s Director, Martins Iluyomade, led the operation, which is part of NAFDAC’s mandate to protect public health and safety.
