Ex Presidential Aspirant Condemns the complete closure of Onitsha Bridge

Peter Obi has condemned the complete closure of Head Bridge Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, following the discovery of illicit drugs. While he strongly opposes the illegal drug trade, he believes it’s unfair to punish other businesses, such as those selling plumbing materials, timber, tools, and provisions, for something they aren’t involved in.

Obi is advocating for the reopening of these markets, as many innocent traders are struggling due to the closure. He also emphasized the importance of conducting searches transparently and fairly, involving store owners in the process. This approach, he argues, will prevent unnecessary disruptions and safeguard livelihoods.

Obi’s comments came after a NAFDAC raid in Onitsha aimed at tackling the illegal drug trade. He reflected on his tenure as Governor of Anambra State, where he addressed public health threats collaboratively and methodically with relevant agencies, ensuring fairness and due process.
