Hon. Obinna Denies Tigran’s Claim demands apology, retraction and compensation.

Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes, has vehemently denied allegations that his committee demanded bribes from cryptocurrency firm Binance and its officers. He described these allegations as “false, malicious, and defamatory”

Onwusibe’s denial comes after Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, made the allegations. However, Onwusibe claims that these allegations are an attempt to deflect attention from Binance’s own legal troubles.

The committee had initiated an investigation into Binance’s operations in Nigeria after receiving a petition from the Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative. Onwusibe maintains that the investigation was conducted fairly and transparently, with no demands for bribes made to Binance or its representatives.

Onwusibe has also filed a lawsuit against Binance and its CEO, Richard Teng, seeking an apology, retraction, and $3 billion in damages. The case is ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for February 19, 2025.
