Plane Crash in South Korea Leaves 176 People Dead

A devastating plane crash occurred today, Sunday, December 29, 2024, at an airport in South Korea, resulting in the loss of 176 lives. The passenger jet, carrying a total of 181 people, including 175 passengers and six crew members, crash-landed and burst into flames.

The incident happened when the plane’s landing gear malfunctioned, causing it to veer off the runway and collide with a fence. Footage of the crash showed the plane skidding across the airstrip with its landing gear seemingly retracted before crashing into a concrete wall at the edge of the airport.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with 32 fire trucks and several helicopters deployed to control the blaze. Unfortunately, only two survivors, one passenger and one crew member, were rescued from the crash site.

The plane, identified as Jeju Air flight 2216, was returning from Bangkok when the crash occurred at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The incident is considered the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea since 1997, when a Korean Airlines Boeing 747 crashed in Guam, resulting in the loss of 228 lives.
