The Labour Party has called for the release of its South-East National Vice Chairman, Mr. Ceekay Igara, who was arrested by police while meeting with party leaders in Aba. In a statement, Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi expressed shock at the arrest, particularly since it appears to have been ordered by the party’s only state governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
The party is perplexed by Otti’s sudden shift from ally to adversary, especially after he had previously supported them. Olorunfemi highlighted the party’s efforts to reconcile with Otti, who recently hosted a stakeholders’ meeting and formed a caretaker committee aimed at challenging the current leadership. He condemned Otti’s use of intimidation tactics against the party that supported him in his political journey.
