Honorable Halims Resubmits Proposal for Okura State Creation

A bill proposing the creation of Okura State from Kogi State has been resubmitted to the House of Representatives by Hon. Halims. However, Ajaokuta Local Government Area (LGA) has been excluded from the new proposed map of Okura State. This development comes after Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, raised a motion of urgent public importance and amendment during the bill’s presentation.

Hon. Abdulraheem rejected the inclusion of Ajaokuta LGA in the proposed map, citing three key reasons. Firstly, he and his constituents were not consulted during the design of the proposed Okura State Bill. Secondly, Kogi East and Kogi Central have natural boundary adjustments along the River Niger/Benue.

Thirdly, Kogi East was carved out of Benue State, while Kogi Central was carved out of Kwara State when the present Kogi State was created.Following Hon. Abdulraheem’s motion, the House of Representatives took his concerns into consideration, and Ajaokuta LGA has been removed from the new proposed Okura State creation bill. The people of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency have expressed gratitude to Hon. Abdulraheem for representing their interests and upholding their decision.
