Wayne Rooney and Plymouth Argyle have officially parted ways after a disappointing run of results. Rooney’s tenure as head coach lasted just seven months, during which the team managed only four league wins in 23 games.
The final straw came after a 2-0 loss to Oxford United on Sunday, which left Plymouth at the bottom of the Championship table, four points adrift of safety.Rooney expressed his gratitude to the club, players, and fans in a statement, thanking them for their efforts and support during his time as head coach.
He also acknowledged his coaching staff, including Kevin Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, Darryl Flahavan, and Mike Phelan, for their knowledge, dedication, and support.
Plymouth Argyle will now be led by first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards in their upcoming match against Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
