The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen responsible for killing seven people, including two police officers, in Ihiala Local Government Area. The attack occurred on Monday at a venue where preparations were underway for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2, 2025. The gunmen shot sporadically, killing two unarmed civilians and five security operatives, before escaping.
The Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono, has condemned the attack and assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. He visited one of the victims receiving treatment in the hospital and assessed the crime scene. The commissioner has also called for information leading to the arrest of the fleeing gunmen, promising to keep the informant’s identity secret for security reasons ¹.
