NASS Employs Over 14,000 Staff, Ranks as World’s Busiest Parliament, Says Clerk

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, has disclosed that the federal legislature employs more than 14,000 workers.

Speaking on Tuesday at the concluding session of a capacity-building workshop for legislative aides of the 10th National Assembly, Ogunlana noted that the figure does not include the 469 elected lawmakers or the daily influx of visitors to the complex.

He said the huge workforce, combined with members and guests who pass through the National Assembly daily, places the Nigerian parliament ahead of others globally in terms of activity and traffic.

According to the CNA, managing such a large institution requires continuous training and professionalism from aides and staff to ensure effective service delivery.

Ogunlana emphasized that the training program was designed to equip legislative aides with the right skills to support lawmakers and keep the Assembly running efficiently, given its status as one of the most active parliaments in the world.
