A woman has been killed by gunmen in Anambra State while filming an ambush on a convoy linked to Chris Ngige, the former governor of the state and immediate-past Minister of Labour and Employment.
The incident occurred on Wednesday along the Nkpor-Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area. According to Fred Chukwuelobe, who previously served as Ngige’s media aide, the former minister was not travelling in the convoy at the time of the attack.
The assailants, who were wearing police and military uniforms, opened fire on the vehicles. A police officer riding in the lead vehicle was shot, after which the attackers seized his rifle and uniform before fleeing the scene.
The yet-to-be-identified woman who was recording the incident with her phone was struck by gunfire and died at the scene. Further details about the motive and the perpetrators remain unavailable as investigations continue.
