The Kaduna State Police Command reported that on Tuesday afternoon a sack holding 210 rounds of 7.56 mm ammunition was recovered on the Zaria‑Funtua highway.
Residents of the Samaru district noticed the bag after it was tossed from a moving black Volkswagen Golf at the Dogo Itace junction and promptly informed the authorities.
Officers from the Samaru division responded, securing the sack and verifying its contents.Investigators believe the occupants abandoned the weapons because they sensed an escalation in police activity, including heightened motorised patrols and snap checkpoints along the route.
The Divisional Police Officer quickly alerted neighboring units in an attempt to intercept the vehicle, but the delay in reporting meant the car had already disappeared and the suspects remain at large.
Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour, emphasizing that a full‑scale manhunt is underway. He reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and warned that anyone involved in illegal arms trafficking will be pursued with the full force of the law.
