Ambush in Sabon Sara: Two Police Officers Killed and Three Missing After Attack by Suspected Fulani Herdsmen

A tactical police unit was attacked on the afternoon of 22 November 2025 while moving through Sabon Sara village in Bauchi’s Darazo Local Government Area.

The assailants, believed to be Fulani herders, opened fire on the convoy, killing DSP Ahmad Muhammad of the State Intelligence Department and Inspector Amarhel Yunusa of Mobile Police Squadron 10 (Mopol 10).

Three other officers ASP Mustapha Muhammad, Inspector Idris Ahmed (both attached to Mopol 10) and Corporal Isah Muazu of the Anti‑Kidnapping Unit were unaccounted for after the assault, while two more officers, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo of the State Intelligence Department, suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to Darazo General Hospital for treatment.

Bauchi’s Police Commissioner, CP Auwal Muhammad, responded by ordering additional tactical forces to the area and initiating a broad search operation for the missing personnel. He also urged the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the officers or identify the attackers, and a coordinated rescue effort is currently underway.

The incident is part of a series of recurring farmer‑herder conflicts that have caused deaths, displacement, and damage to farmland in the Sabon Sara community and surrounding regions.

No group has claimed responsibility, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the ambush. Authorities have assured the community that security measures are being reinforced and that efforts to bring those responsible to justice will continue.
