Nnamdi Kanu Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

A Federal High Court in Abuja handed down a life‑imprisonment sentence to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The judge, Justice James Omotosho, found Kanu guilty on all seven terrorism‑related charges brought by the federal government and delivered the verdict on 20 November 2025.

The court noted that the prosecution presented credible evidence showing Kanu’s involvement in activities such as spreading inflammatory messages, coordinating violent acts, and financing terrorism.

Because the offences under Nigeria’s Terrorism Prevention Act carry either the death penalty or life imprisonment, the judge exercised his discretion to impose the maximum term of life imprisonment.Kanu’s legal team has indicated that they will appeal the decision.

The sentence underscores the court’s view that the crimes were serious, while leaving the door open for further judicial review.
