Tinubu To Visit the U.S. Amidst Christian Genocide Accusations

President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to the United States on Tuesday, according to information gathered by SaharaReporters. The visit comes at a fraught moment, as Nigeria is facing accusations of a “Christian genocide” and U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that he may order military action if the killings of Christians continue. Presidential sources say Tinubu will engage in high‑level diplomatic talks with the U.S. government.

During the trip, Tinubu is expected to meet Vice President James David Vance, who has been delegated by Trump to receive the Nigerian leader, though the schedule could change at the last minute.

Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s special adviser on policy communication, noted that the two administrations share a common interest in combating terrorism and that Trump has already authorized arms sales to Nigeria, a program Tinubu’s government has “adequately utilized” in its counter‑terrorism efforts.

Bwala also highlighted that the meeting will address the dispute over whether the violence in Nigeria targets only Christians or people of all faiths. The Nigerian presidency has repeatedly rejected the “genocide” characterization, stressing that the constitution guarantees religious freedom and that the government is working with both Christian and Muslim leaders to improve security.

Trump, however, has threatened to halt all aid and possibly launch a “guns‑a‑blazing” military operation, saying he has instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action.

In short, Tinubu’s Tuesday visit aims to navigate the escalating diplomatic tension, clarify the nature of the security crisis, and reinforce bilateral cooperation on counter‑terrorism, while both sides grapple with accusations of religious persecution and the prospect of U.S. military intervention.
