Stadio Olimpico Drama: Real Madrid Stage Sensational 4-3 Comeback To Silence Roma

It was absolute cinema at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night as Real Madrid produced a stunning comeback to defeat AS Roma 4-3 in the UEFA Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s return to his former club looked set to end in a famous victory for the hosts after Donyell Malen struck twice in the second half to give Roma a 3-1 lead. Malen, who was assisted by Rodrigo Mora and Matias Soule, turned the game on its head after Marten de Roon’s early opener had earlier been cancelled out by Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe’s goal was historic in itself, as the French star marked his 100th Champions League appearance with his 72nd goal in the competition, propelling him into the top 15 highest scorers in UCL history.

Just when Roma thought they had the game sealed, Mourinho’s men showed their champions mentality. In the 83rd minute, youngster Carlos Espi halved the deficit before fellow substitute Endrick headed in an equalizer two minutes later from an Arda Guler cross.

The crazy ending was completed in the 90th minute when defender Antonio Rudiger rose highest to head home the winner, again from a Guler assist, to complete the incredible turnaround and leave the home crowd stunned.
