Nigerian comedian Damilare Osundare, popularly known as Asiri, has described his recent London comedy show, Eureka, as a defining moment in his career. The comedian said the show was proof that his craft has grown beyond what many knew him for, with audience reactions confirming his evolution as a performer.
Speaking about the production, Asiri noted that Eureka was unique because it was staged on a new terrain and featured a diverse team. He revealed that he worked with an all-white production crew alongside some of Nigeria’s finest creative professionals, which brought a fresh dynamic to the show. The storytelling approach was also different, more playful and filled with cruise, unlike his previous themed shows like Open Secret and I Don’t Need Your Opinion.
For Asiri, the success of the London show represented the coming together of all sides of his creativity. He said he had always wanted a moment where his skills as a writer, a speaker and a comedian would blend seamlessly. Seeing that happen on stage in London gave him immense satisfaction and affirmed his journey as a multi-talented creative.
The comedian acknowledged that performing in the UK market requires a different strategy compared to Nigeria. He explained that audience expectations and delivery methods are not the same, but expressed gratitude that the show was well received. Although he has previously performed in the United States, he said Eureka should not yet be seen as a full tour, as he is still deciding on its next direction.
Asiri added that while he continues to explore international stages, his popular Thursday comedy show in Lagos will continue to hold. He also hinted at plans to organize a conference soon, as he looks to expand his brand beyond stand-up comedy into broader creative conversations.
