More than 600 professors and senior lecturers from public universities across Northern Nigeria have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
The academics, drawn from various institutions in the region, announced their support ahead of the 2027 general elections. They said the endorsement was based on their assessment of the administration’s policies and direction since 2023.
According to the group, they believe Tinubu’s leadership deserves continuity to allow ongoing reforms and projects to reach full implementation. They argued that stability at the federal level is important for sustaining development in education, security, and the economy.
The endorsement adds to the early political alignments building up toward 2027. With the backing of a large bloc of senior scholars from the North, the Tinubu camp gains a notable voice from the academic community in a region considered crucial in presidential elections.
While reactions have trailed the announcement, the lecturers maintained that their decision was driven by national interest. They pledged to mobilize further support within campuses and communities to canvass for the president’s return to office.
