ICC Dismisses Petition on Alleged Kidnappings in Nigeria, No Investigation Ordered

The Federal Government has confirmed that the International Criminal Court has thrown out a petition seeking a probe into reported cases of systemic kidnappings in Nigeria.

According to officials, the ICC reviewed the submission and concluded that there were no grounds to launch a formal investigation against the country at this time.

The petition had alleged widespread abductions and called for international scrutiny of how the cases were being handled. It urged the court to examine whether the incidents amounted to crimes within the ICC’s jurisdiction.

The Federal Government said the decision shows that Nigeria’s legal and security institutions are addressing the issue through existing channels. It added that authorities remain committed to tackling kidnapping and protecting citizens.

Government representatives also noted that they will continue to cooperate with international bodies while strengthening domestic efforts to curb abductions and bring perpetrators to justice.
