Trump Urges Supreme Court to Reinstate Military Ban on Transgender Service Members

Former President Donald Trump has filed a request with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to reinstate a policy that bars transgender individuals from serving in the military.

The filing asks the justices to allow the ban to remain in effect while lower court challenges continue. Trump’s legal team argues that military readiness and unit cohesion should be prioritized in determining enlistment standards.

According to the submission, the administration maintains that the Department of Defense should have broad authority to set personnel qualifications. It contends that deferring to military leadership on medical and fitness requirements is essential for national security.

Opponents of the ban have countered that excluding transgender troops is discriminatory and undermines the contributions of qualified service members. Several lower courts have issued rulings that temporarily blocked enforcement of the policy, prompting the appeal to the high court.

The Supreme Court has not yet indicated when it will decide whether to hear the case. The outcome is expected to have major implications for military policy and civil rights protections within the armed forces.
