Itobe-Anyigba Kidnappings Raise Fresh Questions About Insider Involvement

For a long time now, reports around the Itobe and Anyigba corridor have pointed to a troubling pattern in abductions. Residents allege that some of the attacks involve people with inside knowledge. In certain cases, the claims suggest collaboration between locals and Fulani groups, while in others, the perpetrators are said to be either indigenes acting alone or Fulani actors operating independently.

Accounts from past incidents also show how victims lose their lives under different circumstances. Some are reportedly hit by stray gunfire during an attack. Others are killed after trying to resist their captors. There are also claims that a few victims are singled out and executed deliberately, allegedly because their attackers knew who they were.

The killing of the APC Divisional Chairman for Dekina along the Itobe-Anyigba Road yesterday has only deepened the confusion. The exact details remain unclear, leaving several possibilities. Did he fall into a random abduction? Was his travel plan leaked by someone familiar with his movements? Was he identified by the assailants at the scene? Or did an informant play a role? These are questions that security agencies will need to investigate and clarify.

While government and security forces have a major role to play, residents believe a lasting solution will require community action as well. Local leaders and young people in the area will need to work together with authorities to expose informants, reject criminality, and make the routes safer for everyone who travels them.

May the Almighty Allah forgive the departed, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to endure this painful loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.
