Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a man suspected of dealing in dangerous substances following a targeted operation in the state. The suspect, identified as Aliyu Suleman, was taken into custody with a large consignment of Methylene Chloride, a chemical compound that has gained notoriety on the streets.
According to police reports, officers recovered 64 bottles of the substance from Suleman during the bust. In local communities, Methylene Chloride is commonly referred to as ‘Suck and Die’ due to the way it is reportedly abused and the severe health risks associated with it. Authorities say the chemical is not meant for human consumption.
The arrest is being described as a significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing crackdown on the sale and distribution of harmful drugs and intoxicants. Police officials stated that the operation was intelligence-led and forms part of broader efforts to rid Bauchi of dealers who profit from substances that endanger public health, especially among youths.
The command confirmed that Suleman is currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Officers are working to trace the source of the consignment and identify other individuals who may be involved in the supply chain. The police emphasized that anyone found to be involved in the trafficking or abuse of such chemicals will face the full weight of the law.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The Bauchi Police Command reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug-related crimes and called on parents, schools, and community leaders to help sensitize young people.
