Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State says the state’s federal allocation has quadrupled following the removal of petrol subsidy, giving his administration more room to fund projects.
Speaking in Lafia on Saturday, Sule told journalists and the presidential media team that Nasarawa now receives about N16 billion monthly. Before the subsidy was scrapped, he said the state was getting an average of N4.5 billion per month.
He attributed the increase to reforms rolled out by President Bola Tinubu, which he said were designed to free up funds for states to deliver services that directly affect residents. Sule noted that the decision to end subsidy was difficult, but necessary.
According to him, Tinubu “absorbed the criticism” on behalf of governors so that states could have more resources for infrastructure, health, education and other critical sectors. The governor made the remarks while hosting members of the media on a tour of federal and state projects in the state capital. He said the additional revenue is already being channeled into ongoing projects aimed at improving the lives of Nasarawa citizens.
