Pinnick Endorses FIFA Plan to Sell 20% Stake in World Cup Operations

Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick has voiced support for FIFA’s proposal to sell a portion of its stake in the operations of the World Cup.

Pinnick said he backs the plan to offer 20% of the tournament’s commercial operations to investors. According to him, the move could unlock new revenue streams for football globally. He argued that the additional funds generated would benefit FIFA’s 211 member associations.

The former NFF boss noted that more resources would help in grassroots development, infrastructure, and support for national teams. The proposal, which is still under discussion, is aimed at commercializing parts of the World Cup business while FIFA retains majority control.

Proponents say it could make the tournament more financially sustainable ahead of future expansions.Pinnick added that if managed properly with transparency, the sale could give member countries, including Nigeria, greater access to funding for football programs. He urged stakeholders to look at the long-term advantages rather than focus only on short-term concerns.
