Labour Party leader Peter Obi has stated that promising round-the-clock electricity for every Nigerian within a single four-year term is not achievable.
Speaking on the country’s power challenges, Obi explained that Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure is too weak and underdeveloped to be completely overhauled in such a short time. He noted that building, upgrading, and maintaining the systems required for stable power takes years of consistent investment.
Despite that, Obi said he remains committed to making major improvements if elected president. He pledged to focus on expanding power generation, strengthening transmission networks, and improving distribution so that more households and businesses get reliable supply.
According to him, the goal would be to steadily increase output and reduce outages, rather than make promises that cannot be delivered. He argued that honest timelines are necessary to rebuild public trust in the sector.Obi maintained that with proper planning, funding, and policy reforms, Nigeria can move significantly closer to stable electricity within four years, even if universal 24-hour supply will require a longer-term effort.
