Senate President Godswill Akpabio has apologized to Senator Adams Oshiomhole for comments he made during plenary on Thursday.
The apology came after Akpabio referred to a previous remark by the Edo North senator as “unsenatorial.” The comment in question was linked to Oshiomhole’s earlier statement about Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Oshiomhole had said Kyari would be held accountable “dead or alive.”Addressing the chamber, Akpabio said he regretted the description and moved to defuse tension between both lawmakers. He stressed that the Senate should remain a place of mutual respect despite sharp disagreements on national issues. In response, Oshiomhole accepted the apology and welcomed the call for peace.
Both senators agreed to put the matter behind them, with Akpabio declaring that there should be “no more hostilities” on the floor. The brief exchange drew attention because it highlighted how personal remarks can escalate in the Senate. With the reconciliation, leadership says the focus will now return to legislative business rather than personal exchanges.
