The Central Bank of Nigeria has confirmed that it opened two domiciliary accounts linked to the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. According to the apex bank, the action was taken based on instructions from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The CBN stated that one of the accounts was denominated in United States dollars while the other was in British pounds sterling. Both accounts were created under the name associated with the PFIPC, an entity currently under scrutiny.

However, the bank clarified that neither account was funded or used for any transactions. It noted that after opening the accounts, no deposits were made and no withdrawals or transfers were processed. The clarification comes amid an ongoing investigation into the alleged fake agency.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is probing claims that individuals operated under the PFIPC name to solicit funds and impersonate a government body.Officials said the CBN’s statement is part of efforts to provide transparency on the financial trail linked to the case. The Accountant-General’s office is also expected to give further details on the circumstances that led to the directive for the account openings.
