Ogun Police Recover Ransom Bag from Fulani Leader’s Residence Amid Kidnapping Probe

Authorities in Ogun State have arrested 67-year-old Abdullai Muhammadu, the Seriki Fulani and head of the Fulani community in Ijebu Ode, along with his eldest child in connection with a series of recent kidnappings in the Ijebu area.

During a search of his residence, police reportedly recovered one of the bags used to deliver ransom payments from the suspect’s kitchen. While maintaining his innocence, Muhammadu told investigators he was aware that his son, Bala Muhammadu, had previously been involved in kidnapping activities.

He claimed, however, that he believed his son had abandoned the criminal enterprise. The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Police Command to address the surge in abduction cases across several Ijebu communities.

The development underscores the complexity of tackling organized crime when suspects include community leaders. Police say investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of involvement and to identify other accomplices.

The case was first reported by Nasarawa Daily News.
