Musician Seun Kuti has shared a personal account of how his late mother, Fehintola Kuti, once concealed cannabis inside a loaf of bread and instructed him to deliver it to his father, Fela Kuti, during his detention.
The Afrobeat legend was being held at the Federal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Alagbon Close, Lagos, at the time of the incident.
In a recent interview, Seun explained that he was unaware of the contents hidden in the bread while carrying out his mother’s request.
He recalled accompanying her to visit Fela at the facility known as Panti, where she handed him the loaf to give to his father upon arrival.
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the family’s experience during Fela’s periods of incarceration and the measures taken to support him. Seun’s recollection highlights both the personal risks involved and the enduring loyalty within the Kuti household during a turbulent era.
